ABFE’s Annual Harambee Conference

Harambee is the largest gathering of Black professionals in organized philanthropy—welcoming allies, co-creators, and co-conspirators committed to supporting Black individuals and communities. The conference features mainstage plenaries addressing timely topics crucial to Black communities and a selection of curated sessions aimed at amplifying ABFE’s 10 imperatives for the philanthropic sector.

Join us for a roundtable session that shares findings from an innovative photovoice evaluation for The Kresge Foundation’s Public Health Regenerative Leadership Synergy (PHEARLESS), an initiative that supported early- to mid-career public health and community leaders to advance their equity work in public health departments and public health services. Participants will learn how the evaluation team created the photovoice approach and managed a virtual gallery walk of participants’ words and photos; the relationship between critical reflection and regenerative leadership; and lessons learned from regenerative leaders’ experience in PHEARLESS.

- Community-Based Participatory Research in Project CHANGE: Adapting Evaluation Across Three Distinct Communities
Presenters will share examples of how evaluation teams adapted to address emerging challenges, focusing on equity-centered evaluation approaches to accommodate uncertainty, inform strategic pivots, and prioritize community voices.

Participants will learn how to integrate evaluation frameworks that enhance decision-making, align stakeholders, and measure collective outcomes. By the end of the session, attendees will leave with practical tools and strategies for embedding evaluation into collective impact work from day one.
