A series of 2019 issue briefs explores Systems Change, Health Equity, Partnership Health, and Community Engagement in the context of The BUILD Health Challenge, an innovative collaborative of national and regional funders focused on creating a new norm for community health.
The BUILD Health Challenge addresses health inequity by supporting multi-sector community partnerships, with the goal of improving health for everyone.
Guided by the BUILD principles—Bold, Upstream, Integrated, Local, and Data-driven, each grounded in health equity—communities build strong partnerships outside the traditional health sector to tackle the root causes of chronic disease and drive sustainable improvements in community health.
To date, The BUILD Health Challenge has supported 55 projects in 25 states and Washington, DC. Together, they are working to transform the health and wellness of their communities.
Since 2015, Equal Measure has been one of BUILD’s evaluation and learning partners. We recently completed an evaluation of BUILD’s second cohort, resulting in four spotlight issue briefs focused on core elements of the BUILD strategy:
- Systems Change
- Health Equity
- Partnership Health
- Community Engagement
BUILD recently launched its third cohort of 18 communities across the country, tackling complex multi-sector health challenges, from access to health foods to improving maternal and child health to addressing childhood asthma and mental health through attention to housing issues. You can read more about the projects and communities on BUILD’s website.
Equal Measure Senior Consultant Siobhan Constanzo took part in a webinar on BUILD hosted by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
